Marco Polo (1254 – 1324)
Travel Literature

Marco Polo, the legendary Venetian explorer, authored one of history’s most influential travelogues. His Il Milione (The Travels of Marco Polo) chronicled his adventures across the Silk Road, offering Europeans their first detailed glimpse of Mongol China. Though skeptics questioned his tales of paper money and imperial postal systems, his work inspired later explorers like Columbus. Polo’s descriptions of spices, technologies, and Asian customs revolutionized medieval geography and trade. His legacy as a bridge between East and West remains unparalleled.
